Grade Overview
A tin-based Babbitt that adds cadmium and nickel to the tin-antimony-copper base, used for heavy-duty bearings, high-temperature bearings and bushes. Cadmium and nickel raise hardness and high-temperature strength, so the compressive load capacity is higher than that of ZSnSb11Cu6, with hardness of about 34 HBW and useful properties retained at higher temperature. The trade-off is lower ductility and toughness, so the alloy adapts less well to shock and off-centre loading, and cadmium raises environmental and occupational-health concerns. Specify it for bearings carrying higher loads at higher temperatures; check cadmium compliance and protection requirements, control segregation and structural uniformity during pouring, and avoid clearly shock-loaded duties. Treat it as cadmium-bearing material throughout casting and service, with proper protection and waste disposal. The higher hardness makes the alloy more suitable for steady heavy loads than for reversing or shock loading, and because the lining is harder it conforms less readily to the shaft, so alignment and clearance matter more than with the softer grades.
