Grade Overview
A wrought phosphor bronze with slightly more tin than the 6.5-0.1 grade, used for bearings, bushings, worm wheels, springs and spring leaves subject to moderate friction. The higher tin content brings better strength, elasticity and wear resistance while ductility stays good, and corrosion resistance and weldability are also sound: annealed tensile strength is at least 310 MPa with elongation of over 45%, so cold press forming is straightforward. In the hard temper strength is higher and forming correspondingly harder. It is commonly used for moderately loaded parts that see friction and wear. Select the supply temper according to the amount of forming required and strengthen after forming, and control heat input during welding so the heat-affected zone does not lose properties. Where elasticity is the main requirement, a higher-elasticity phosphor bronze may be a better choice. For bearing and bushing work it is chosen where friction is moderate and lubrication can be maintained, while its good ductility keeps forming and assembly straightforward.
