Grade Overview

A lower-copper two-phase wrought brass used for structural parts, hardware, stampings and connectors. With about 59% copper the structure contains both alpha and beta phases, so strength and hardness are high with acceptable ductility and the price is the lowest of the common brasses; it still accepts pressure working when hot, with tensile strength of at least 294 MPa and elongation of at least 25%. Cold-forming ductility is below that of single-phase brass, work hardening is rapid and corrosion resistance is only average, with a pronounced tendency to dezincification. Use it for ordinary structural and hardware stampings under moderate load. Because the ductility reserve is limited, control deformation per pass and anneal between stages in cold forming, and be cautious or apply stress relief where corrosive media and residual tensile stress combine. Hot forging and extrusion are the natural processes for this grade, and parts are usually finished by machining or light cold forming rather than deep drawing.
