Grade Overview

A wrought nickel-iron aluminium bronze, classed as a high-strength heat-resistant copper alloy, used for bushings, flanges, gears, nuts and wear- and corrosion-resistant parts. Nickel and iron strengthen together and refine the structure, giving high strength and hardness - tensile strength of at least 690 MPa and hardness of about 170-240 HBW - and the alloy responds to heat treatment, keeps useful mechanical properties up to about 400 °C, and has good anti-friction behaviour and seawater corrosion resistance. The weak points are poor brazability, only fair machinability and comparatively limited ductility. Specify it for high-strength, corrosion-resistant and high-temperature wear parts; plan a suitable heat treatment and machining sequence, avoid galvanic coupling with dissimilar metals in corrosive media, and control temperature and deformation in hot forming. It is one of the strongest wrought copper alloys, so it is chosen where a compact section has to carry heavy load and resist corrosion at the same time; the limited ductility means sharp notches and tight bend radii should be avoided.
