Grade Overview
A simple iron-bearing wrought aluminium bronze used for bushings, wear parts, valve parts and structural components. Iron refines the grain and forms hard particles, giving high strength with good anti-friction behaviour and corrosion resistance, and hot pressure working is sound; the alloy can be electric- and gas-welded, has tensile strength of at least 540 MPa and a density of about 7.5 g/cm³. It is often used to replace high-tin wear-resistant bronze and reduce cost. Brazing is poor, cold-forming ductility is only fair, and when it works with steel the differences in thermal expansion and conductivity must be allowed for. Choose it for wear- and corrosion-resistant structural parts; control temperature during welding and hot working to avoid overheating and embrittlement, design the fit and thermal-expansion clearance correctly in steel assemblies, and remember that its hot-working range is narrow. Where machining matters, aluminium bronze needs sharp tooling and rigid setups, and its resistance to seawater and most industrial atmospheres makes it useful in pump and valve components.
