Typical Applications
Grade Overview
A cast aluminium bronze whose main strengthener is manganese, used for heavy-machinery bushings, flanges, valve bodies, pump bodies and wear parts. The high manganese level gives high strength and hardness in a dense structure: sand-cast tensile strength of at least 600 MPa with elongation of at least 15%, and at least 650 MPa with about 170 HBW in chill castings, with good wear resistance, and it can serve as a wear part below about 400 °C. Castability is good and the alloy is weldable. The drawbacks are a limited ductility reserve, poor brazability, and a tendency to segregation and variable properties if composition control is loose. Choose it for heavy-machinery castings that must combine wear resistance with pressure containment; control manganese burn-off and uniformity when melting, control cooling rate in heavy sections, and preheat and manage stress during welding to avoid cracking. Its high hardness makes it a good match for heavy bushings and wear rings, and the weldability is a real advantage when a casting has to be repaired or built up.
